'One good thing about music when it hits you, you feel no pain.' Bob Marley I honestly don't think there has ever been a time in my life when I made a significant creative breakthrough without music playing some major role. My first novel Dancehall was a crime thriller based around the Jamaican music scene and it came into being, fully formed and vibrant. The characters were alive and the story wrote itself almost. All the elements fell into place with a kind of synergy that surprised me, That flow period that set me on the path to writing was always accompanied by the booming bass of Dancehall, Reggae and Hip-Hop. It may seem like chaos to some but for me it felt like the most natural state to be in. For a first time author who didn't have a clue what he was doing, the manuscript was imbued with an energy, I'm not sure I could have produced without the music. Since then it has been an integral part of my creative process but I'm sure whatever you do, music - the right type for you, will enhance your performance wether you reach your flow state with Schubert or Chronixx. Get better, with music. Peace, love and power Anton |
