Her scorn took me aback.
âI wouldnât do that! But if I did, I'd do it better,â she answered and kept on criticising the individual. Thatâs when it dawned on me. Sheâs just not capable of taking action, not that she canât, but she prefers to criticise the action takers. Itâs safer and more comfortable.
Thatâs what saddened me the most. I fuck up too but I check myself and switch to a more empowering mindset. There are so many people who feel it's  their responsibility to âtell it as it isâ. They make out that they are doing you a favour by tearing you down.
Everywhere I look now, there are critics. Go onto social media, and there are millions of them. Where are the action takers?
Iâm not a big talker, and neither should you be.
Instead of wasting valuable time watching others and criticising them, successful people are doers.
I donât mean any old action either. Being busy is fluff. You need to focus on your goals and the steps that will lead to their attainment. Nothing else will do.
The key here is right action, not simply action. Or worst of all, reaction.
People who take action usually win, even if the conditions arenât ideal or your actions arenât perfect.
Most people have it backwards; they think they cannot act until they get clarity. But the truth is, action brings clarity. Take the step - do something with the information available, discover what you like & donât like, want & donât want. Then you adjust and focus.
All writers understand the idea of action. They may struggle with it, but they appreciate the purity of the idea.
No action, no completed book.
And itâs true, from my experience, at least that sitting my ass down and writing in my notebook provides clarity. Minutes earlier, I had no clue where my scene was going, but now, I have a chapter Iâm happy with because I took the right action.
Want to separate yourself from the majority.
Take action.
All it takes is one little act in the right direction⌠and then another⌠and then another⌠until effort is no longer required and you naturally take the steps needed.
Now begin.
