I had to decide to mold that reality for myself with the negatives and positives associated with that choice.
Do you want to change your life?
Have you ever asked yourself why the vast majority of people never make a change that will meaningfully impact them and their world? The statistics say 95% of people will accept their circumstances in life and remain where they are. The numbers may seem depressingly high but look at it this way, not everyone has the will to keep going when all around them seems to be saying you’re failing.
Most people become ‘drifters’ who get pulled every which way by the negative influences in society and end up leading the lives of quiet desperation. That focussed 5% are the ones that have changed society in a big or small way. They are the ones who have made life such a fantastic adventure because of their art, books, business, philosophy, and heart. I want to be one of those individuals who move the needle for society with my contribution.
Most of us will never achieve the goals we’ve set for ourselves.
Harsh but true.
Outside of the crazy aspirations that don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of ever being realized, the sad thing is it’s not our goals; it’s our willingness to commit and pay the price that's stopping us.
That choice reminds me of a scene from The Matrix when Neo is given the choice of the red pill or blue pill by Morpheus. Just as Keanu Reeves reaches for a pill, Lawrence Fishburne warns him.
“All I’m offering you is the truth, nothing more.”
Why should you risk upsetting the status quo if you’re comfortable and the outcomes in your life are reassuringly predictable? You’ll choose the blue pill. But I think you’re doing yourself a disservice by not selecting the red pill - a term coined in the movie to describe the state of a person changing his or her perception from a false reality to the painful truth.
Certainty in life is an illusion. A program that has been foisted upon us by a society that needed that kind of
I don’t care who you are or your aspirations; risk is an undeniable part of everything. Deciding not to take the steps because you’re looking for some fairy tale assurance that everything will work out exactly how you imagine it is ludicrous.
Don’t wish it was easier; wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems; wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge; wish for more wisdom.
Jim Rohn
Just because you might never become world-famous doesn’t mean you shouldn’t commit to that dream. Having a goal and making changes to facilitate that goal will always leave you better than when you began the journey.
Success is not pursued; it is attracted by the person you become.
Author Bronnie Ware, in her book The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, tells us the number one regret was, “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”
What changes do you need to make to live a life true to you? Please don’t wait, make them.
