So how do you work on your inner game?
Â
Goals are essential, and you know I love talking about them, but they don’t need as much attention as you may think. Once they’re set, the challenging aspect is recognizing the steps required to get there. That’s where your effort should be because once you fall in love with the process, you fall in love with life. Goals are fleeting things, and behind every goal, there’s another one waiting to be achieved. Think about it. To reach that cherished goal is a
one-time thing, but the process is forever, baby. You have to give it meaning and make it significant and fun because it’s something you’ll be doing consistently over time. The road to your dreams doesn’t matter as much as what you become on the way. Personally, I want my road — the process of my life - to be memorable. If it’s not, then what’s the point.
Â
That’s why you must create a lifestyle around the process. And make sure what you have chosen is what you want because you’re going to have to live with the consequences of it. Make it exciting and compelling for you. It’s your life, after all. Make sure you consider a few things:
- What results are you looking to achieve? Get clear on your expectations.
- Do you have a problem standing alone for what you believe in? I hope not. It can be lonely when you stand for your convictions..
- Are you willing to pay the price?
- Is this a lifelong passion for you? It needs to be if you’re willing to spend more than half of your life performing it.
- You must fall in love with the process.
Â
If you’re ever at a stage in your life where you’re frustrated that your goals are taking too long to materialize, then simply fall in love with the process again. Cook with abandon, write with passion, give the best ever customer service to your clients and create those dazzling sketches for your prototype and do all of this for the love of it. The recipe for success doesn’t exist. Life is a dynamic, unpredictable, wondrous, messy, and highly frustrating
adventure.
