Our old friend Resistance is making its presence felt. But there is something we need to know. Something we can remind ourselves of when our actions are stuttering. Disruption flies in the face of timing, and many times you can do nothing about it but adapt.
There’s never going to be a perfect time. How can there be, with so much change happening around you, preparing for that is impossible; you just have to begin. Experience isn’t going to become available to you until you’re ready for it, whether you know that consciously or not.
But like all worthwhile things in life, it will be a challenge, and you must become comfortable with the process of getting better.
There is no other way.
So what happens when you’re taking action, not hesitating, but it’s still not happening for you.
That’s cool.
Maybe you’re not ready for it.
Remember, in my past posts, I talked about becoming the person who would best exemplify being fit, having money, using the skill you’re learning, or meeting the man or woman of your dreams. You’ve got to be that person to experience whatever it is you want to obtain, or it’s merely wishful thinking.
To become a Speculative Fiction writer, I had to first admit that I knew nothing. I started reading the grandmasters with new eyes and consistently improved my storytelling skills. What I was trying to do is slowly becoming the person I need to be to inhabit the title of a Speculative Fiction writer. I couldn’t be that person without doing the work.
I discovered I needed a strong foundation to become the person I wanted to be, but I didn’t have the skill, courage, or experience to be that person. Now I know It requires heart, faith, and trust. It requires dedication.
And requires time.
I’ve learned to stop beating myself up about it. I’m taking the steps I need to, and although I’m impatient, I know I need to go with the flow of the universe. When the farmer plants her seeds, she’s got to prepare the soil and water it. And as much as she’d like to force the process, she can’t. The rains come, and the sun shines.
Nature does what it does in its own time.
I think the distinction is that we aren’t waiting for a perfect time, we are acting, and time is passing while we become ready to take on our new role.
If it matters to you, do it. Be aware that just because you’re doing it doesn’t mean you’re doing it right; that takes time. Your results will depend on how close you are to becoming the person you need to be.
The timing will never be right. The stars won’t align. Your plate will always be full and it won’t be any easier tomorrow. You cannot do it all. But whatever you choose to do, show up and begin it.
