The older I get, the more I appreciate the passage of time and how precious it is. I’ve been known to get angry with myself about shit I’ve done in the past, that through the lens of age made me realize what a colossal waste of time it was - I need to stop doing that.

Time is Money

For me, it’s especially valuable because I have a purpose to fulfil. The thing I see too often is time being wasted, squandered like it’s an inexhaustible resource that will never run out for you. This short post isn’t meant to be a morose examination of time and how much we have left.

But a wake-up call for you, my friends who I speak with every week. I’m not just reminding you about using your time wisely but myself too. What kind of friend would I be if I let you sit back and watch the world go by, as you literally kill time on your mobile phones or binge watching on Netflix?

Robert Greene one of my favourite non-fiction writers has a concept he calls Alive Time versus Dead Time. Dead Time is when you sit around and you wait until things happen to you. On the other hand there is Alive Time when you are in control, when you make every second count, when you are learning and improving and growing.

What kind of time do you want to be involved in?

I wanted to share this eye-opening website HERE that always stops me dead in my tracks every time I’m tempted to treat time disrespectfully. Tim Urban created it and it represents the human lifespan visually. I’ve spoken about having a purpose many times before. And I believe without a purpose your time will never be well spent. A grand purpose or a humble one will do. Just make your precious time stand for something before you have no time left.
