I leverage the power of delusion to my advantage.
It was later that I stumbled across the idea of faking it until you make it. In my case, it was naivety and not having sense enough to realize I should have given up.
Ignorance is bliss, they say.

But I could see the benefits of this idea, and with most of these success principles, I tended to interpret them from higher ground. Some people identify this behavior as being inauthentic and ego-driven. I view it as a way of ramping up your confidence, pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone, and learning new things. I think that embodying the persona of a successful, happy individual is one of the most effective methods to meet your goals and achieve your
dreams.

How you think, and the things that you believe shape your behaviors, feelings, and actions. It’s kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you believe that you are successful, talented, and have something to offer to others, you will have a different outcome than if you always think negatively about yourself. It’s a choice. When you “Fake it til you make it,” it allows you to focus on the work. What you say to yourself and what you believe truly
matters.

As a speculative fiction author, people who know me in that capacity know that my stubbornness comes from a sprinkling of naivety and a modest helping of fake it till you make it. I’m blessed to be able to emulate writers from the past and present that I admire. I’m nowhere close to making the impact some of these authors have made in the world, but I can model them. I can try to be in their heads and take the actions they would - at least I convince myself of
that and forge ahead with my career. Over the course of time, those delusions aren’t delusions anymore.

It’s true that we need to lift our heads from time to time and check our egos and reality. But these reality checks should be used to help us keep to our strategies and attain our goals and dreams. It’s hard work that never goes away, especially if you’re thinking big. All creatives - business or artistic, need that Delusion of Possibility to keep going when things look bleak. First, you keep the motivation. With motivation, you will practice, refine,
practice. Soon that practice will become a skill. And what is a skill? A skill is evidence-based confidence, the Holy Grail. But without the delusion in the first place, you’d never get to where you need to be.
