It’s not realistic to be the first on the moon or on Mars.
It’s not realistic to be the first one to build an aircraft.
It’s not realistic to paint masterpieces or write bestsellers.
.
It’s not realistic to build an electric car.
It’s not realistic to create the world of a young wizard to entertain hundreds of millions of people around the world.
It’s not realistic to create art.
None of the technological and artistic advances we now enjoy were created by realists. Hard work must be done to manifest ideas into the world. I accept that, but dreaming is free. If you have the capacity to imagine it, then you can bring it into reality.
People who embrace their dreams I consider as special folk because the majority of people consider them and what they do as delusional. After all, they think if you don’t want to live like they do - an ordinary life, you have to be stubborn or thick. Living normal doesn’t take courage. But stepping out and doing what others think is impossible or downright stupid is what makes them special.
Consider this. You’re a grown-ass adult - no-one can tell you what to do. With that responsibility, you get to decide how you act at all times. You are the boss.
If you decide that goal of writing a novel in a style that is wholly unique to you, then forget what family and friends think.
Just do it.
You can’t be extraordinary on their terms unless you want your life to play out like a boring movie you’re forced to see a dozen times.
“Being Realistic is the Most Commonly Travelled Road to Mediocrity” — Will Smith
I’m passionate about this because if I had succumbed to being realistic, I wouldn’t be writing what I love today and talking to you guys every week.
So my advice is simple. If you have a vision someone told you was impossible, choose to make your dream happen. Wake yourself up. Slap yourself in the face if that’s what it takes and act now.
