When you look on Social Media and see the sexy, rich, eloquent, and smart people in the world, and you think you are none of these things. You ask yourself, so what is my superpower? How can I impact the world without these talents?
Simply put, your superpower is to outwork the competition.
Will Smith said it:
“The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be out-worked, period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me, you might be all of those things. But if we get on the treadmill together, there’s two things: You’re getting off first, or I’m going to die.”
And that’s it. Consistency will set you free, Gentle Readers. Don’t be fooled by the innocuous nature of the word. It separates the men from the boys and the women from the girls.
If I look at my Instagram feed right this minute, there are talented, attractive, smart people everywhere. They are amazing at what they do and are blessed with certain advantages you don’t have. And that thousand-watt smile they give you on their profile picture says they know it. Well, you have power too, and it’s something most will not entertain because it’s hard work. But that is what we can use to level the playing field.
So few people are consistent at anything. Mastering your skill demands repetition over many years. It can be a long, arduous, tedious slog. But be encouraged because you share the podium with some of histories greats.
I’ve been writing for over twenty years, and I’ve only just fully understood the power of consistency on my journey. Consistent effort has made me a better writer and will continue to elevate my numbers on my Stephen King Index.😎 It’s a powerful tool I’m so glad that I appreciate and understand it. If you’re not that good now, consistency will make you better. I’m living proof of that.
You're going to find yourself working alone, bored and tired sometimes, but because you know what you’ve achieved, you've achieved it through consistency you don’t mind. The ones who rely on talent and prestige are limited, and their luck will eventually run out. And when they give up - they usually do, we will be there consistently outworking them because that’s what we do. We may have started out with minimal talent, no connections, and mediocre skills,
but we work harder.
And we will win.
