I don’t think I’d be a writer if I wasn’t able to do things differently. I get very uncomfortable when my work is indistinguishable from the work of others, even if it is a bestselling author. That’s why I came up with Urban Fantastic. A self-created genre of speculative fiction that I was suited to write, and in an arena, I did not share with a large chunk of other writers.
It set me apart.

There's always a Flaw in the System - Think Different

I just can’t abide by average.
There’s nothing wrong with having a statistically average life. The problem for me is when you choose to be average — to be just like everyone else — because you are choosing to be mediocre. Being like everyone else is a guarantee that you will never fully develop your innate talents and strengths. By extension, you will never be the best version of yourself, and that all but guarantees mediocrity.

It took me years of constant writing, soul searching, and developing my voice as an author to get me to where I am now. The need to do things differently stuck with me. Even this email discourse we have going on every week is my commitment to being different. It’s unusual to have a speculative fiction author talking about all things Personal Development. But I choose to approach my work and life uniquely, and you can start to do that too.

Think about this for a moment.

All the events in your life — good or bad — have brought you to this singular moment. With every new day, we are allowed to be the best we can be. Committing to not following the crowd but blazing your own path. And it’s not like you’re some kind of pioneer doing it alone. There are many examples of people who, because they did things differently they became the best in their field. If you commit to this idea of shunning the path of the majority, then there are a few things you should know.

Fear Not

t’s not going to be easy. You will not be the life of the party. You might even lose a few friends along the way. You may have to go it alone. But it’ll definitely be worth it.

Remain Consistent

To stand out, you must never skimp on consistency. Remember, the crowd doesn’t believe in keeping to a routine. Whether it’s for your own life or for a product, you deliver to the public. The ‘Think Different’ crowd have a set pattern for running their work, their day, and their life. This is the reason why you think differently. You never compromise on your established process because you know the power is in the process, and as sure as the sun will set, you will get the results you require.

You’re Willing to Do What Most Aren’t

You never follow the crowd and are willing to do what others will not, and that’s why you can achieve what normal people can’t. You will do what it takes, and that mindset alone sets you apart.

Constant and Never-Ending Improvement

To do things differently, you need to be able to draw on resources for ideas and inspiration. In short, you need to continue to learn. The successful know the fact that learning is a continuous process. And as things change in the world, you need to be aware, so you can adapt and improve. The majority can’t be bothered with this kind of thinking, and that means you are in stellar company.

Test Your limits

Being the same is dangerous for us. We are the ones that move fast and break things. You cannot be different or innovate unless you challenge your limits. If you want to make a dent in the universe, you must be willing to think out of the box and challenge the norms. Come up with simpler solutions for complex problems. That’s how successful people grow in life! And why ordinary people continue to remain ordinary.

That Gentle Reader is some of my thoughts on approaching life on your own terms, not someone else’s. I’m in the trenches just like you, learning and growing, but what I will not do is ask the world for answers. I’m looking inside, trusting my gut and my inner guide,

You can’t follow your heart and follow the crowd. Be true to yourself and do what resonates within you. Don’t let what others are doing hold you from your greatest work.
