Don’t do things because others do them. Do things because others don’t.

Sometimes just being who you need to be, makes you an outsider. There are things I do every day that almost nobody In my immediate circle does.

I'd Rather be an Outsider!

I communicate with you guys through a weekly email, I have a podcast, I work out, I cook, I write novels, and I read every day. I show gratitude, and I meditate.
How many people do I know - not on social media or connections I sort after but my immediate circle - who are doing these things?

Zero.

I’m an outsider.

I’m not better than anyone who doesn’t do the things I do. What I’m saying is I couldn’t readily find others in my social circle who share my passions and interests, so usually, I’m on the outside looking in.
My classification of an outsider does not include individuals with mental or social issues. Neither do I mean that pathological loner whose prepping for the zombie apocalypse. Instead, I’m talking about people who have a unique position in society. People who, either by choice or by necessity, approach life differently from the people around them.
These individuals don’t want to be like everyone else. You have a unique take on life. Whether you create with words, music, song, paint, clay, marble, or you act expressing your own ideas is important to you. You listen to the still small voice of inspiration inside you rather than what the group tells you.

And that gives you an advantage.

If you’ve developed the skill of loving your own company, then you have a superpower that will save you hours of unnecessary worry about what others think of you. Like many, I’m quite satisfied being alone. I don’t necessarily want to fit in. I enjoy being different and being free from the pressure to conform. If you are not concerned about fitting in, then you are free to be who you are instead of who or what people expect you to be.
That’s so liberating and a game-changer.

Another plus as an outsider is the opportunity to observe what’s happening around you without your presence affecting what your observing. Nobody notices you because you’re not on their radar. Being in that position sets you up to learn so much about human nature, that you otherwise would not realize.

Even now, I often feel like someone outside the circle in many respects. I’m different, not entirely understood, never being the one to readily embrace the newest fads but sticking to some pretty simple rules for my life that aren’t the most popular choices. Yet, I am grateful for the outsider experience. It has taught me so much and given me an unfair advantage when it comes to dealing with people and situations.

My worldview is all about, Strong opinions, loosely held.
For me, that means having certainty about my path through life but at the same time continually remaining open for new learning points, new beliefs, and new ways of looking at life.

Gentle reader, no matter what the other side may think, nothing is wrong with us. We have developed different ways to view the world compared to the majority of the people around us. I, for one, am thankful for who you are and appreciate our time together every week through this email. You have decided to leave the crowd and act contrary to what everyone else is doing. You are the ones who typically achieve real success, wealth, and fulfilment.

I’m comfortable being the outsider and will not compromise my beliefs for approval. Let’s make our own rules, seek approval from ourselves, and never lower our standards, bring them up to ours.
It’s cool being an outsider.
