No One Will Ever Give You Permission to Create the Future.
- James Altucher
Tyler Perry is one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers, writers, producers, and even actors. But, I’m sure when he floated his dream idea of creating a film Lot of 330 acres with 12 sound stages which are bigger than Disney, Warner Bros. and Paramount’s
studios in Burbank, California, combined, his idea was met with some raised eyebrows. He just didn’t care because he understood the power to create his own reality was his alone. Even if the idea of being the first black American to own a major film studio outright was scary, he understood he had the power. He gave himself permission not just to succeed but to create the reality he wanted to experience.
I know. I'm gonna be the next Superman. I'm cool wid it.
It all starts with you. The decision comes from inside. That feeling of certainty that tells you, this goal, aspiration, or belief you have is a righteous one, doesn’t just appear from nowhere. All your experiences, successes, failures, missteps, mentors, family friends ... everything up to that point in your existence goes into generating the conviction you need to believe in what you’re doing. Once you believe in it, truly believe then it can happen.
Just prepare for the questions from well-meaning friends and family, and don’t let your own inner dialogue derail you.
The thing is we can be our own harshest critic. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially if it’s helping us to get better. The problem is when you feel undeserving of the good things life offers. Then you become stuck, and creating the reality you’ve dreamed of is impossible. Your mindset has got to change.

Tyler Knew it was not going to be easy but had the kind of mindset that allowed him to believe there was no limit to the results he could achieve. Even after the failures, he experienced From 1992 to 93, to 94. With one show a year, he kept on doing his plays. Every year the play would fail, until 1998, the seventh year of trying, he made a breakthrough. How many of us would have hung on For that long? But as I mentioned earlier, that feeling of certainty came to
his rescue and kept him going Because he sat down with audience members and listened to how his plays impacted them, and his life changed forever. Nothing could deter him from his path since then and that’s the level of conviction we need. He required a confirmation from his audience that he was on the right track. That’s only human. What do you need to bolster your conviction when the journey gets tough?
Our time on this planet is a short one. I want to experience every moment of it as fully as possible. In order to do that, I consciously create my reality by making the choices that will bring a great life into being. And some of those choices prepare me to be the best speculative fiction author I can be while I fully engage with the journey.
I'm sometimes unsure when I am faced with naysayers and well-meaning negativity but that certainty always returns to save me because I know what I‘m looking to create. I give myself permission to pursue my passion and strive to live my dream. I let the doubters doubt.
It’s almost as if they need to see me prove to them I can achieve my goals. I love my friends and family, but in this case, I don’t care what they think.
The truth is, when you are choosing your own reality, you don’t need to seek anyone else’s permission to do so. This is your life and nobody, but you can live it. Just one thing Gentle Reader, you are worthy and deserving of being the best you can be. Like my man, Tyler Perry, give yourself permission to be awesome and watch yourself shine.
