The idea may be simple, but the application is difficult. Not many of us have the strength of character to be unpopular if that’s what it requires to achieve our goals. Because as painful as that might be in the moment nothing is as gut-wrenching as going through life without making the choices that express what you believe. It’s sad to say, but the most natural thing in the world is to live the most loathsome life you can imagine. Think about it.
The loudest voices in media are not encouraging you to be the best you can be, self-discipline does not come naturally, ownership of our actions is not the default state of a human being. We would be a mess if we succumbed to the messages being fed to us without question and allowing our bad habits to win out
And yet some of us do.
But you, gentle reader, are striving to live a life you love.
So what does that look like for you? You must know precisely what Constitutes this life you love. Write it down.
Have a look at my list:
- Financial Independence
- Maintaining my health
- Living in a home that expresses my creative sensibilities
- Having close and meaningful relationships
- Freedom to spend time with my family
- Traveling
- Freedom to make decisions without obligation or fear.
- Freedom to entertain on a world stage with my writing
What’s on your list?
It's all about staying true to what you value but how do you do that? Well here are three things that I’ve kept front and center in my mind as I create the life I want to live.
#1 Stop caring what other people think.
#2 Know what excites you and immerse yourself in it.
#3 Stand on your own two feet and don’t be afraid to do things alone. Sometimes the people around us make it difficult for us to express ourselves. Doing things alone will eventually lead to meeting new people who share your interest.
You know you're on the right track when your life starts to feel less conflicted. You realize that what first felt risky, now feels like the most empowered and exhilarating way to live. And you just cannot see yourself being any other way.
So what’s stopping you?
Typically, you are, by standing in your own way. Self Limiting beliefs are the culprits and need to be fought against. It’s a constant battle moving forward but one you can win. You owe it to yourself. One step at a time.
Just do it.
