I have a talented artist friend who has a love for boxing - its history, characters, and the art of the pugilist. Looking at his work, you can’t help but be drawn into the dynamism of his pencils or the vibrancy of his paint strokes as he depicts the boxers in victory and defeat. But my friend just doesn’t have any respect for his potential. He’s unreliable, unmotivated and undisciplined. As a freelancer, he was a nightmare to work with, and I was amazed he
was able to complete anything he started. Big clients who worked with him once, had no desire to work with him again. The heights he could reach with some discipline and belief in his potential.
Regrettably, many people are held back by limiting beliefs, fears, and doubts related to their potential. Left unchecked you begin to believe you’re not worthwhile and like my friend start to self-sabotage without even knowing you’re doing it.
Whatever you buy into long enough and with enough conviction, forms your reality.
Before you get to that point though, ask yourself right now, Am I living up to my potential?
Are you taking action?
Am I taking risks?
Are you fulfilled?
Am I proud of myself?
Are you striving for greatness?
Am I following a plan?
Potential is always clothed in hard work and demands an indomitable will, commitment, and courage.
Author of The War of Art, Steven Pressfield struck upon a crucial point when he said that all potential exists within the space-time realm. Your task is to birth that potential by giving it life through dedication, commitment, and inspired action.
Whatever is holding you back, let it go. It’s only making you small while the universe is urging you to be big. Learn, grow, and do the best you can. That’s the way to reach your full potential. It’s not easy, but I’m sure you know that already.
