I do it because creating something exciting, entertaining and thought-provoking, that will outlive my brief existence gives my life meaning. And not just the writing process but the networking, research, travel, study and everything else that goes into being a writer. It all contributes to giving my life significance, and that’s what it's all about.
I’ve become good at living life in the now. Living in the moment did not come easy for me. I just found it to be the best use if my time. And as you’re beginning to see with most things I’m involved with, I want to keep it simple. The quickest way I can make myself present is by slowing down and being grateful. Nothing pulls me back into the moment better than reciting what I’m thankful for. That shift in feeling is what I get when I’m in the present, and it's beautiful. I usually use a notebook
or if I’m on the move just take a moment to recite how lucky I am.
Don’t get me wrong.
By all means, plan for the future but choose to live today. Living in the present and planning for the future are not contradictory; they’re complimentary! The future can provide hope, and the past can give closure but if you focus on either one obsessively, its a recipe for mental and physical collapse.
Carpe diem! Or ‘seize the day, ’ in everything you choose to do is what we should aspire to. The Greek philosopher Horace who came up with these now famous words 2000 years ago would be amazed at how relevant they are today.
Take some time to slow down, focus and be grateful. Invest your energy, time, and heart in the Now and your future will be set.
