According to John C Maxwell world reknown Leadership guru, there are 8 misconceptions about the growth that hold you back.

1. Assumption Gap - I assume that growth will happen automatically. It won’t. You have to set an intention to grow.

2. Knowledge Gap. - I don’t know how to grow. Go out and learn, the information is readily available.

3. Timing Gap - It’s not the right time to grow. There is no time like the present.

4. Mistake Gap - I’m afraid of making mistakes. You learn more from failure than from success. Jump in and learn.

5. Perfection Gap - I have to find the best way before I can start. Just do it, and on your way, you will find the best way. There is no such thing as perfection. Just constant and never ending improvement.

6. Inspiration Gap - I don’t feel like doing it. Just do it. After you’ve started doing the thing, motivation will show up. Only through action will you find motivation.

7. Comparison Gap - Others are better than I am. You can only learn if others are ahead of you. Take advantage of what they know. Learn to be comfortable outside of your comfort zone.

8. The Expectation Gap - I thought it would be easier than this. Do people still believe that excellence comes easy or quickly? It just doesn’t happen. Be prepared to put in time and effort.

If you want to reach your potential, you must do much more then experience life and hope. You must go out of your way to seize growth opportunities as if your life depended on it. Why?  Because it does. Growth doesn’t just happen. Not for me. Not for you and definitely not for the role models you admire. You have to go out and grab it.
Good luck.
