What will your legacy be?
Coming up to the end of the year, I seem to always ask myself that question. I think I'm checking in on myself because I never want to be caught being busy but never truly giving anything back. There is something about coming into the world and not making a difference that really frightens me. Writers are supposed to have things to say, should be contributing in some way, educating or entertaining. That is one part of my philosophy but not the whole picture. My legacy is about growing, never resting on my laurels, always reinventing yourself
There is so much more to do.

But that's just me.
And don't get it twisted. I'm not saying you need to be a writer or anything other than who you are. Having a legacy doesn't mean only the ordained few can inspire others by their life. You can start making your mark on the world today by pushing yourself. Grab hold of your destiny and leave behind a trail of inspiration.
When I say anyone, I mean anyone and the key is preparation.
What have you got to offer?

It is not just about money. It's about the gifts you have, tangible and intangible. It's that something no one else can offer the world and how best to share it. When I say preparation I mean you may have to sit down with yourself and pinpoint the things about you no one else can give.

Leaving a legacy is also a self-serving thing. It’s not just about giving but how you want to feel because the more you contribute the more your life gains value. I hope from my emails you have come to realize that you are special - not in a ‘the world owes me’ kind of way. But that you are unique and able to contribute in a style only you can offer. For me, that is what legacy is all about. It doesn't have to be a Bill and Melinda Gates style Foundation, just something that makes a difference in the world big or small.

What is our purpose in life if not to leave a mark?

At the end of the day, it is not about what you have or even what you've accomplished. It's about who you've lifted up, who you've made better, it's about what you've given back.

If you focus continually on making the world a better place, entertaining more people, educating more people, uplifting more people or just loving more people in some small way your life will have more meaning and purpose, and you create a legacy that cannot be denied.

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.
