I Will Never Fit in, that's One of My Best Qualities — Terri Willingham Before I began writing this piece today, I was thinking about a topic I could talk about that I could tie in with my favorite of holidays, Halloween. didn’t know? Go out and get yourself a copy - HERE. For me, the stars of this kind of literature or film are the monsters, the outsiders and the Mavericks. It's funny because being an outsider yourself is what will set you apart from everyone else.
It is a good thing. They will say that I have shed innocent blood. What's blood for, if not for shedding?
Most people just exist, they remain safe, never rock the boat. The pursuit of a dream that will take you out of your comfort zone is not considered. It's just too risky for them.
So they settle for an easy life instead of pursuing an exciting one. The Outsiders in the books and films we love so much, never settle. They will strive to achieve their goals no matter how misguided it may be to the
rest of the world. Think about all the great villains and monsters and how focused they are. They will not stay in the shadows even with the many disadvantages they may face - they are hated and feared. They know that to merely exist is a frustrating and demeaning position to be in and they are willing to shoot for the dark side of the moon to win. They will not go quietly into the sunset with their heads down and would rather die than to settle.
Being an Outsider has potential not just for
the bad guys in a fictional world but for truth seekers in the real world.
We can learn something from the monsters. Outsiders shun the known and familiar, and actively embrace the unknown and the unfamiliar. They are unconventional and risk takers going up against the protagonist because they must.
I had to be an
Outsider growing up. A black kid who loved all things alien and monstrous. While my friends were playing football or cricket, I was sneaking away for computer games and science experiments. Even growing up in Jamaica my love for the left-field subjects set me on a different path and allowed me to have a fresh perspective on things others would not dream of. And today I’m proud of my status as an Outsider. It is one of my greatest strength’s because It has allowed me to express myself in a way
that is fresh and unique. I don’t fit the mold, and like the classic monsters, we love to hate I don’t follow the boring rules - well not all of them.
You are an oddity so who cares what anyone says or thinks. The best chance you have in my opinion to achieve something special is being an Outsider. Because only your perspective, your unique point of view, your rule breaking skills will set you apart from the tribe. Your Outsiders mindset is what allows you to step away from the prevailing
thought and zig when everyone else is zagging.
As the Joker from Batman said, "See, I'm not a monster, I'm just Ahead of the curve."

The Outsider by Stephen King is a tour de force of a novel by the master himself. Mr Kings excellent writing takes the reader along for a chilling ride
with what seems to be a straight forward if horrific homicide with a cast of colourful and diverse characters. As The Outsider unfolds we begin to see
the supernatural elements seeping into the investigation and the transformation of the characters as they slowly begin to believe something bizarre is at play. The Outsider is a perfect investigatory and suspense novel with Mr Kings usual supernatural edge. It is not a casual read and to my mind needs to be savoured because the writing is nothing short
of brilliant. Go get it for Halloween.
