We don’t like change. For most of us, we are comfortable with the status quo. We feel it's easier standing still but mark my words, every decision has some kind of pain associated with it. And we have to decide. Do you want, the pain of staying where you are or the pain of growth?

The worst thing you can do is try to keep things how they are. Growth requires bravery where you focus more on the rewards of a new future than the potential risks.
I ask myself that question about my writing all the time. Do I want to challenge myself and keep producing novels that grab readers or remain the same and lose significance? I have no choice if I want to stay relevant and that is not just for my writing. What about the other aspects of my life?
The worst thing you could do is have what psychologists call an “avoid-orientation,” where you focus most of your energy and thought on maintaining your current position or protecting your current status. You must advance. Otherwise, you’re going backward.

Everything that makes you who you are your health, your wealth, your spirituality, your relationships, all require that you forge ahead, improving on these areas of your life. I picture myself as a Great White Shark, a metaphor that has proven so very useful for me. Great White Shark’s have been given a bad rap in fashionable circles, and the public always focuses on how savage and brutal they are which isn’t necessarily true. What makes this creature unique for me is it's continually moving. Even when it rests, Great White’s are moving because if they don’t, they drown.
I like that.
Constant and never-ending improvement. That is what a fulfilled life is about.
Trust me family, this is not complicated. I don’t do complex. At the end of the year, I take time to look at the areas of importance in my life, and I take stock. The question I ask myself is this:

Am I a better person in all the key areas of my life now, than I was then?

If so, I'm on my way to creating the future self I'm aiming for.
