From its writing, over a century ago it captured the imagination of readers, and the idea of the duality of human nature became forever linked with the English language. When someone
exhibits two distinct personalities at different times, we term their mood swings as Jekyll and Hyde.
Yeah it's me, embracing my inner bastard
The Inner Bastard - a term I borrowed from the UK based multimillionaire property magnate Rob Moore, describes an aspect of the internal struggle we all face. It may not have been Rob's intention but for me The Inner Bastard refers to that part of your nature that is lazy, selfish, bigoted, opinionated, manipulative, inconsiderate to name a few. It balances your Inner
Nobleman/Noblewoman, and although this Mr. Hyde may seem repugnant to some, your Inner Bastard is very important. The thing with the duality of nature especially if you want to live a productive life, you have to blend parts of your Inner Nobleman with your Inner Bastard to get the results you require. Life is not black and white, and neither are the results you’re looking for. In Chinese Philosophy the Yin and Yang symbol describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be
complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world. In other words, light and dark must co-exist, and it does whether you are comfortable with it or not.
With that principle in mind, we understand that our Inner Bastard or Inner Nobleman cannot exist without the other and we shouldn’t feel let down when Mr. Hyde rears his head just temper it with your Dr. Jekyll.
It’s all about balance and
awareness.

How do you handle people who don’t like you?
Growing up I took it in my stride. It was apart of the landscape for a kid in Jamaica but once adolescence kicked in, not being universally liked gained a disproportionate significance. If it was a female, who disliked me the effect was 10x more uncomfortable. My Inner Bastard didn’t give a shit and if it had its way would want to retaliate in some form. That could be counterproductive and disastrous. My Inner
Nobleman, on the other hand, would want to talk - if I had the balls to broach the discussion with my hater, which I doubt I would.😇 That option would make me look needy and weak.
My mature self with the understanding of the Inner Bastard and Nobleman has approached this differently.
Now I know by blending both of my Inner selves I can still be cool if someone doesn’t like me. I’m fulfilling my purpose, and they are meeting theirs. It’s a big world.
You have to care genuinely about
others, but at the same time have zero care about what they think of you. Love them from a distance if you have to but never let their opinions have an impact on your work.
I’ve got a feeling I’m going to revisit this topic again but in the meantime don’t run from the Inner Bastard embrace it. It helps to make you human.
