When life puts you in tough situations, don't say "Why Me?" Say "Try Me." — Anonymous Have you ever been stuck and no matter how you gently cajole yourself into action nothing works? It may be a minor bump in the road or a chasm that needs to be leapt over.
Einstein once said: We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.I’d like to add you can’t solve a problem with the same level of
energy or commitment that was used to create them in the first place. To break through that barrier is going to take more or a different approach. It may mean you accept some truths you have otherwise ignored. I propose some judicial application of tough love, to rattle your thinking and dislodge your blockage. Being real and applying tough love to yourself is not the done thing. Some people are comfortable living a lie because of fear or ignorance.It’s never pretty seeking the brutal truth
about your self and your situation but knowing who you are and what you are honestly up against is powerful knowledge to have.
Some Rules of Tough Love
- If you can do it yourself, don’t look to anyone else just do it.
- Hold Yourself to a higher standard - You need to demand the best of yourself at all times. Just because it's personal doesn’t mean breaking promises to yourself is acceptable.Keep in mind only the best will do.
- Self Love - The power rests solely with you to love
yourself. No matter what society, work, spouse or family expect of you. Ultimately you can’t keep pleasing everyone else and not yourself. It may not be comfortable at first, but it's necessary.
- You’re a 100% responsible. This was a tough one for me to accept and I’m still grappling with it, but it makes perfect sense. You can’t control the weather, the stock market or even how your family relates to you. But you can control
how you respond to these events in your life. You can choose to be happy or sad; you can choose to be frustrated or enthusiastic. Choose wisely.
- Be honest with yourself - Why do we lie to ourselves? The truth can be painful and can change the beliefs we hold dear. . But suffering the pain in the pursuit of the truth - knowing yourself, is worth every tear. Only by committing to honesty with yourself will you grow and
evolve into a happy and prosperous person.
- Nobody is coming to save you - The brutal truth is any change in your life will only come about if you make it happen. Once we accept this, we begin to believe in ourselves. We can handle whatever comes our way.
- You will fail - It’s not personal. Accept it as a part of the journey and
get on with it.
- You are entitled to absolutely nothing - The world does not owe you anything. You may be blessed with living in a nation with the abundance of material wealth and opportunities. But even so, to make a mark in this world you will need to dig deep and work hard like everybody else on this planet.
- There are no excuses, you’re either doing it or
your not. Somewhere on this globe, there is someone with substantially fewer resources than you. And guess what they are killing it, while you say you can’t. Be accountable for overcoming your obstacles and push past excuses.
