Thinking is Difficult, that's Why Most People Judge. — Carl Jung I grew up listening to the reassuring bass tones of Earl Nightingale on the radio in Jamaica. His wisdom - not fully appreciated by myself at such a young age went on to change the life of so many. But one of his greatest insights was what he called the Strangest Secret. I’ve listened to
and read this masterpiece many times and the idea is an elegantly simple one.
Here it is: You become what you think about most of the time.
What are your dominant thoughts?
This principle isn’t alchemy, but it’s damn well close. Over my lifetime I have seen how powerful this practice can be. I’ve used it and continue to use it in my writing life. Keep your mind populated with the things you want, and because of your focus, your subconscious will be working away to provide you with little insights and nudges that will
set you on the path to achieving your dominant thoughts. It’s not rocket science but within its simplicity hides the challenge and that challenge is how well you can focus. The mind can be an erratic place influenced by so many different factors. The weeds are continually growing, and you have to be ever vigilant. You need to keep your thoughts on the things that you want, and off the stuff, you don’t want. You may not know your dominant thoughts are negative until it shows up in your reality.
It's easy to miss because you live with it every day.
The erratic mind of ours is processing all kind of negative crap that shouldn’t be in there at all, but we give it a voice and voting rights. No wonder we won't think big or create the things that are close to our hearts. We can’t eradicate our thoughts of negativity
entirely and nor would we want to but we can strive to make our dominant thoughts serve us. That kind of focus is tough but doable. What I do is to find ways to crowd out the toxic impressions and replace them. My method isn't pretty but it's effective. Just keep your mind busy, so it doesn’t have the time to be drifting in directions you don’t want it to. The reason why I’m never bored. I do these things.
