Everything You can Imagine is Real — Pablo Picasso What if we told ourselves empowering stories instead of the bullshit ones that are going around and around in our heads. The BS stories I call a Failure in imagination. Why, because if we think about it, the same energy it takes to tell ourselves an uplifting story is the same energy it takes to tell ourselves a story that will tear us down. Even if you think, it has no discernible effect on your world as you
know it, isn't it better that your self-talk is positive and not negative anyway. Negativity already surrounds you, why add to it.
Much to learn, you still have. The good news is that whatever we tell ourselves does affect our results. I read someplace about the power of intention. I think it was from the great Wayne Dyer who said "You don’t attract what you want. You attract what you are.” So how can you attract the kind of life you want if, you keep telling yourself stories of your inadequacy, failures, and weakness. And what's even crazier is the majority of what we imagine about ourselves aren't facts. A
lot of the time we are creating circumstances in our head and getting so worked up negatively about things that have not happened, ascribing character flaws to ourselves that don't exist. We are creating all of that.
I always talk about the three things we have ultimate control over:
- How we think (Your Imagination)
- Your actions.
- Your reaction to events
Everything else is out of our control. Your
thoughts, your imagination, and actions are what counts, and when these powerful forces are in harmony, great things can happen. We aren’t perfect, and we can’t be in the positive zone 100% of the time but if we are given a choice, why not allow our imagination to make us soar. If the idea of your thoughts and the stories you tell yourself affecting the outcome of your life, too esoteric, let's get more practical. Studies have shown and even without the scientists, from our observations, we get
better results with a positive frame of mind than from a negative.
Before I have a completed book, I imagine how good it will be and take practical steps to make that a reality. I'm confident about it because I consult with smarter and more talented people, to make sure I'm not deluding myself into thinking my work has merit - that is another email entirely. Once I have a piece of work that I'm happy with - a writer is never 100% happy really, I ship it. I'm scared
as shit, but I'm positive about what I've done to get it to this stage and even if critics tear into it, I’ve done my best. All I need to do is keep learning and continue to imagine better results.
Hope this Helps
I was reading Steve Harvey's Act like a Success,Think Like a Success and for the first time
it became clear to me what the difference between your Passion, Talent and Gift are. Steve explains it so clearly I won't be struggling with the distinction again. But what made this such an empowering read was how Steve used his imagination early on to get him to the stratospheric levels that he presides in now. Your imagination is important and powerful use it wisely.
