Why do we keep comparing ourselves to others? I suppose comparison can be a good thing if it helps us to get better in some way, or spurs us to improve our performance. But let's be honest, I struggle to take a positive outcome
from my comparisons. The thing with me is that I will not get into a bout of comparing without feeling better about myself when I'm done.
Not easy but I can't afford the baggage.
What you need to understand is that there is nothing wrong with you having these feelings; it's a human emotion that unfortunately, we have to manage. Because if we don't, we will be perpetually unhappy. It can mess up the perspective you have on your value and when you start second guessing that, your
self-confidence will be in tatters. In case I need to remind you why ts not worth it: - It's a waste of your time and that commodity is precious
- Your too unique to be compared with anyone
- You have nothing to gain
- If its not going to make you happy don't do it
- It will make you bitter and resentful
Don't be Surprised, there is no one Like You
Ok, so there is no one like you, but that's not the be all and end all of what makes you special. You've got to truly believe you are special.
First thing I do, is a trip down memory lane. I look at my successes and all the things that I do, not just well, but with a signature flair only I can accomplish. If you've read any of my books - What are you waiting for? Then you will know what I'm talking
about.
Secondly, be thankful for who you are and what you have. You don't have to wait for a future outcome to be grateful. Every new day gives you an opportunity for that.
Thirdly, remember we are all human, even the ones we are comparing ourselves to. I've talked
about the perfectionism before, and I'm sure it will rear its ugly ahead again. But suffice to say no matter how it seems we all have our challenges. It's how we deal with them that is important.
Fourthly, if you are going to make comparisons, make them with yourself. If anything you should be striving to be the best version of yourself possible. I'd focus on ways to get better at whatever I do on a day to day basis. That would be my challenge and hopefully yours too.
