Get ready to be unpopular.
You've got to be selfish to be able to be the best you can be. There is no two ways about this. And I'm not talking about becoming an egotistical, arrogant dick. What I am saying is for you to be effective in the world you have to be happy. You are no good to anyone if your not at your best and I've found that you cannot be at your best if you are pleasing
everyone else but yourself. Pleasing others especially family can be a thankless task and not just that you get no recognition for your efforts but you are using time. Burnt hours that you will never get back. I learnt this late in life - told you I'm a slow learner but for some years now I've been practising that selective selfishness. That decision did not go down well  but there comes a time when you  have to look after your physical, mental, financial and spiritual well-being
and to hell what others think.
No one can do this for you. You have to take ownership.
You are stepping out on convention and the tribe will not like that.
They want you to keep on doing what your doing. You are told to work on someone elses shit and to forget about your own aspirations. Some of us will never break the cycle, unaware, we are on that treadmill While some of us figure it out but just watch it happen While others will say enough is enough and do
something about it.
I for one want to make my small mark on this little blue planet I inhabit but I can only do that by prioritizing my activities to make that happen and not spend my limited resource of time doing other peoples work. Will the people around you understand that.
The majority won't but that is to be expected. This is a path of significance most people will not walk.
