I talk to a lot of would-be writers, who have heard the stories of these wunderkind authors whose very first efforts propelled them into stardom. Not in so many words but they ask for help so they can navigate the uncertainty, monotony, frustration, and rejection most writers go through.
But why do they ask that, Anton? Why not get on with paying the price?
They ask because they want to be spared the pain that is required to achieve the goal. It’s normal to feel like that, human nature even. It’s just not reality.
I couldn’t save them the experience even if I wanted to.
My answer to them is to embrace the challenges, gain the experience and come to terms with the fact there are no shortcuts. To learn my craft and to learn your craft you have to go through the experience
process. Even when I know before hand the triumphs and failures you'll be inevitable facing, I will never rob you of that experience.
It will only make you stronger.
