You've Got What it takes but It's Going to Take Everything You've Got

Do not judge me by my successes,

judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up.

 —  Nelson Madela

What do you do when things are not going your way but falling apart?

You know your on the right path. You have a plan and made goals. You're making the sacrifices and working hard but you just can't seem to make headway. Then you are side swiped with the unexpected,

Been there, done that.

It's tough and if your not in it for the right reasons, it makes it even worst.

We all have periods like this in our life but the trick is how do we manage them.

Resilience is the buzzword that has been banded about as another important character trait that needs to be added to your personal arsenal for successful living. Just because its in vogue now doesn't mean it wasn't always an important factor.

It's strange but when things get tough for me, I feel like I want to hibernate. Ride out the difficult period in the warm embrace of my bed. The reality though, is I step back for a minute, to assess my position and prepare my plan of action.. Oh, and that minute, could be an hour and that hour could be a day and that day could be a week. But the important thing is I take a breath. I don't know about you guys but I have to remind myself what is important to me. We all need a 'Why' that is bigger than our challenges because with a big enough 'Why' the pain you're experiencing now, will begin to make sense.

Never Give Up

My 'Why' is to consistently write great  Urban Fantastic fiction to the largest audience possible and leave a legacy of exciting and thought provoking work, that adds value to peoples lives.

What's your 'Why'?

When things go pear shaped - a Briticism for when things go horribly wrong, their are six things I try to apply to pull me through.

Be Thankful - Anton are you off your head? I'm knee deep in shit and you're telling me to be thankful. Well yes. Focus on what you've got, not on what you've lost.

Accept Yourself  -  After all that's happened, you're not feeling good about yourself, right about now. Acknowledge your thoughts, emotions and actions for what they are. Accept them and move on.

Believe in Your Self - Self belief is already shaky at this point but you got to trust that you are enough to handle, whatever life throws your way. Bad things can happen in life, prepare for them in best way you can and keep calm.

Chill Out - Easier said than done. Pay attention to your emotions and learn to tolerate uncomfortable feelings.

Work Hard - Take responsibility for your actions, never give half measures to anything especially now and be open to new input that will improve your performance.

What is Your 'Why'?  Discover what is your purpose. That all encompassing thing that makes you come alive and gives your life meaning, When things gets tricky, call on it.  As German philosopher Frederick Nietzsche once said, ‘He who has a why can endure any how.’

Support Network - Have at least one person who cheers you on  and who you can turn to in a crisis. They will help to keep your spirits up, when your on your knees.

If you take anything away from this, let it be when the challenges come, and they will, your best friend in the world,  will be your resilience. Nurture it.
