The Wesley Snipes Effect and How it can Drive You to Success

The Secret to Success is Constancy of Purpose.

 —  Benjamin Disraeli

Wesley Snipes has been a source of character reference for my books for a long time. He is one of the early actors who embraced genre films and put his unique stamp on whatever he was apart of. I've loved everything he's done and followed his career from his early days of acting. And although I respect his talents, there was something about Wesley that set him apart from his lesser counterparts and that something is what I've coined The Wesley Snipes Effect.

One of the things I've also learned about admiring and emulating role models is realizing they are human beings with their own demons and challenges. Our jobs are to pinpoint their virtues and apply them to our lives - we don't need the negatives, we have enough of our own. As for Wesley, the effect of his consistency, is one of the things that made me admire him.

Wesley Snipes is a master of Consistency.
Why Wesley or not Samuel L Jackson or Denzel Washington? Well its all a matter of history and what kind of hand life has dealt you for your actions. Samuel L Jackson and Denzel Washington have not had the tumultuous relationship with Hollywood as Wesley has experienced. It wasn't plain sailing for those two acting giants, but Wesley has ruffled a few feathers at the highest level because of his outspokenness. Then there was his imprisonment for tax evasion. Remember this is a black actor, who has upset some of the heavy hitters in tinsel town - Blade 3 was a nightmare production and rumors have it that Wesley was an intolerable prima donna who came to blows with the director.

See, that's why I love him, fighting for what he believes in and not caring about the labels he was given.

Don't Lose your Head be Consistent

That debacle would normally be the end of your career, but Wesley was just too much of a hustler to listen to what anyone had to say about him. He knew it was his responsibility to do what was necessary to keep working and being relevant.

He just can't help himself.

And that is the power of Consistency, the Wesley Snipes Effect.

He left prison with a reputation of being difficult to work with but immediately he got work with, Sylvester Stallone in his Expendables franchise, he was working on TV, released Gallowwalkers, a film he starred in 5 years ago, acted in a movie called Recall, he's presently promoting a Sci-Fi Thriller Armed Response and is now releasing his first novel Talon of God, to name a few projects we know of.

See what I mean.

Consistency is a habit with him, and through all his ups and downs, he manages to keep working and moving forward on his own terms. I could be wrong but Wesley has utilised the effect so many times its second nature, and I don't think he can stop himself. And that's what makes it magical. That kind of habit is what you need in your life.

This is how I keep consistent:

  • Do your One Thing everyday whether it be writing, painting, music, entrepreneurship or whatever is your calling.
  • Attack your One Thing with enthusiasm. Your Passion will set you head and shoulders above the rest.
  • Do the things you don't feel like doing everyday but have the power to move you closer to your goals.
  • Take responsibility for your actions not your results.
  • Maintain a steady focus.
  • Always have a Plan 'B'.

Most people won't go to those lengths for what they want. But you Constant Reader, the ones who buy my books and read my posts will. Habits aren't the easiest things to develop, but they are crucial if you want to fashion your life, in a way that will lead you to the achievement most of us seek. I know I talk a lot about what I'm doing in my life but its a way to share what has worked for me and hopefully we can see it work for you. too. The Wesley Snipes Effect is one of those things.

Use it.
