I had to decide, but I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to pay the price. It all sounded grossly unfair to my younger mind.
What do I get out of this deal?
Even if I paid the price to become a writer, there were no guarantees that I would be financially stable from my work. I could turn out to be some guy who has written some good books but is barely scraping together a livelihood.

If you don't pay the price for success, you'll pay price for failure.

So why not just live and deal with whatever life throws your way.
Thankfully, in my case, I decided to pay the price, finding out many years later that we all have to pay a price. You either choose it, or life will choose it for you.
We never know exactly what paying the price will involve, but we have a much better idea than people who allow life to randomly decide for them.
You don’t have to be productive, ‘successful,’ wealthy, well-known, or looked up to.

In my case, I preferred to decide for myself and accept the price I would have to pay.
We’ve all had dreams and ambitions that we wanted to pursue. Unfortunately, these people have unlimited desire but limited dedication. As a result, their potential goals remain forever out of reach, untouched by their halfhearted efforts.

The path to any significant achievement is inevitably lined with hurdles, pitfalls, and hard choices that test your resolve.
We know this.

An aspiring entrepreneur may have to pour their life savings into their fledgling business and work 80-hour weeks to get it off the ground. I had to write into the wee -hours before work to find time to write amid family obligations. A person striving to get fit likely has to cut out indulgences and endure gruelling workout routines.

In each case, serious goals demand serious sacrifices of time, money, comfort, and immediate gratification. Sustainable growth and real transformation never happen overnight through passing whims or fleeting efforts. They arise through the prolonged, purposeful transfer of energy and resources to pursue an intended outcome.We ‘kinda’ know what is required; we just think the price is too high.

I disagree.
I find the uncertainty of allowing life to decide for me scary but to each his own.
Those unwilling to embrace temporary deprivations and make difficult trade-offs ultimately let their lofty goals remain dreams rather than achievements. Paradoxically, the pain and price associated with chasing ambitions is precisely what makes realising them so valuable and rewarding. Ideally, the price paid should be weighed against the significance and likelihood of achieving the goal to determine if the sacrifice is worthwhile. But the reality is we don’t know for sure and can only have faith our instincts are correct.

So why bother?
Let me tell you why.
The only certainty you have ‘in paying the price’ is that you will become a better version of yourself every single time. You are gaining experience, skills, resources and networks that will continue to grow and influence the outcome of your efforts.

We can ultimately prevail Only by embracing short-term discomfort and aligning our daily behaviours with our long-term aspirations. Sure, the journey is arduous, and the price is high, but is there a greater cost than having unfulfilled potential and living with perpetual regret?

For those who dig deep and carry ambition’s weight in dedication, struggle, and sacrifice on their shoulders - no vision is too lofty, and no dream must remain deferred. In the words of Mrs Eunice Hewitt - a wise woman and my mom: “The hotter the battle, the sweeter the victory.”

The achievement is sweet precisely because the price is steep, so embrace it.
