I learned early that climbing to the top can be a lonely endeavour. I always thought I'd have more friends around me on my way up. Maybe because friendship meant a lot, I naively imagined there'd be more people around me at the top. That communal celebration, that journey marked by camaraderie and collective triumphs, did not materialise. When I published my first book, Dancehall, many moons ago, I was confident that the fifty-odd people on my list would read and review my book.
