In my mind's eye, I recall sitting on my Dad's lap in the dimly lit living room, watching 'Duppy Films,' my Dad's genre definition for Horror Films - on TV. My parents were Jamaican immigrants with hearts filled with dreams and hands calloused from years of hard living. Mom and Dad, like countless others of their generation, possessed little to no formal education. Theirs was a story of toil and sacrifice, where every opportunity was seized with both hands, no matter how small. As I watched horror films with my Dad, I didn't realise the weight of their aspirations rested upon my shoulders and that one day, I would transcend the boundaries of my family's history through the power of storytelling.

I chose writing, and through ambitious goals, continuous learning, persistence, resilience and taking calculated risks, I've made some legacy-defining advances. One of the top five most important things you will ever do is decide on your life goal. You need to choose that one thing you are willing to give your life for. That thing you will be known for because it is your legacy to the world. It's never a straight path to this realisation, but the circuitous ups and downs are more than worth it. Whether financial, social or spiritual, your entire life will be committed to this goal in good times or bad. And in my estimation, that is a life well lived.

Today, as I reflect on my journey, I am humbled by my progress. I have become 'The One' in my family's success story, breaking free from the mould of expectation and forging a once unimaginable path. My stories have found their way into the hands of readers worldwide, and I am no longer an unknown quantity.

As I gaze back at my parents' sacrifices and the small steps that brought me here, I am reminded that being 'The One' is not about grand gestures but about unwavering dedication, persistence, and belief in one's potential. It is a journey we can all embark upon, regardless of our background or circumstances.
