We donāt listen to ourselves enough, and Iām including myself in this. There is a lot of wisdom on the inside if we only listened. And I think the best time to do that is if you live in the hustle and bustle of a big city especially
is the early morning. There is something about the serenity and quiet of an early morning. If you have a family, this may be the only time to sit with yourself. A time when you can ask yourself questions without the men in white coats being summoned to take you away.
I like asking myself questions aloud and then sitting back in the quiet embrace of the morning listening. It will take time, but if you keep asking empowering questions, the
unapologetic you will start showing itself. You may not be aware yet, but if you dig enough, the answers are there. The unapologetic you can be brutal. Remember, most of us have been living up to societyās expectations for a long time. Maybe you arenāt ready to listen, so you may ignore it when it comes.
But itās there.
And thatās where the rebellion portion of this talk comes into play. You have to be able to
fight against the urge to conform, to stay as you are. Your old Self isnāt going to give up without a fight, and you will be reminded by friends, family and society that you should remain who you are.
You must fight against it.
Ā
In my writing life, the choice I made early on to be my unapologetic Self was the best decision Iāve ever made. Initially, it may not have been commercially astute, but it has
been a game changer for my self-esteem and confidence. I canāt help how readers see my work, I may not be what you would expect, but Iām at peace with that. All I know is my work is not what Iām expected to write; it is what I must write.
Unapologetically me.
Ā
Iām a work in progress - and so are all of us.
Feeling unapologetic is emotional confidence in my books.
I will not be manipulated to feel shame in what I do or follow the herd. I will not be bullied by comments left by strangers or lulled into a false sense of superiority by compliments. I am unapologetically me, and that will have to do.
Knowing who I say I am gives me peace each time I publish a book. And when I donāt feel at peace, it means I need to do some work on myself.
Ā
You deserve to be the
truth of who you are. Pursue your passion because this is honouring yourself. You are not better than anyone else, but you have unique gifts that no one else possesses. Show them your unapologetic Self and make a difference in the world.
