I’m crap at arguments.
Because words are my stock in trade, you would think that I’d be comfortable with words across the board - spoken and written, but I’m not.
I can never recall the insightful and witty phrases that could make my view poignant and incontrovertible. They come to mind after the fact, where the only person they’re impressing is me. Even so, I respect the power of words whether spoken or written.

I see their power all the time, especially from the connection I make with my readers. I'm continuing that tradition from the bye-gone days when words were used in conjunction with actions to great effect by men and Gods. If you go through the mythology and religious practise of all cultures, words and actions together, have the power to perform miraculous acts.

We live in a world where actions speak louder than words, and the adage “talk is cheap” has become a part of popular culture. We are taught to believe that actions are the ultimate measure of character, while words are easily manipulated or forgotten. I want to challenge that. Can we uncover a more profound truth that reveals the intrinsic value of words and action in understanding who we truly are? I think we can.

Words, the foundation of communication, hold immense power. They have the potential to inspire, motivate, and connect with others on a profound level. When we speak, we bring our thoughts and emotions to life, sharing our perspectives and aspirations with the world. But to understand the real worth of words, we must recognize that they serve a dual purpose: they express our intentions and shape our reality.

I get reminded of it daily as I put pen to paper. When I have a new story idea, I talk passionately about it with my friends. On the surface, my words may be dismissed as just talk if it wasn’t for my track record of taking tangible actions. I create worlds with my words, and I connect with readers from around the globe on so many different levels.
I am shaping reality.

My words lay the groundwork for future endeavours as I write my stories. Talking about the characters, inspiration and plot ideas with others, I open the door to conversations, alliances, and opportunities. I can also garner support from other authors or readers inspired by my vision.
I’m creating something, and it all began with my words.

The trick to this act is to align our behaviour with those words.

Actions alone can be deceptive. It is possible to perform good deeds without genuinely internalising the values behind them. People may engage in acts of charity or kindness as a façade to gain social approval or enhance their image. Their actions might seem admirable on the surface, but without true intent, they are merely hollow gestures. I see it all the time with my books. People say they admire what I do and wish me well, but they never, ever support what I do in any tangible form.
What does that say about them?

The alignment of words and actions is the only true indicator of a person’s character. When our words and deeds complement each other, they form a seamless and authentic narrative that reflects our values and beliefs.

It’s not enough to simply label talk as cheap and actions as the sole measure of character. Both words and deeds play crucial roles in shaping who we are and how we impact the world around us. The power of words lies in their ability to inspire, connect, and propel us towards inspired action. While actions reveal the authenticity of our intentions and values when they align with our spoken words.

So as we move forward, let’s recognize the value of words and actions. By speaking our truths and backing them up with genuine actions, words are far from cheap – they are a priceless tool for expressing our intentions and shaping reality.
