I dread to think where I’d be without the magic of imagination. I’m grateful for books, comics, films and TV for entertaining and enchanting me but, more importantly, for allowing me to add my voice to that grand storytelling tradition. In 2023 I want to pursue and reacquaint myself with the magic in the world. I’m also aware that so many people do not share my view of this because of the day to day struggles they face.

Create Your Own Magic.

I don’t need to remind you about the challenges we are facing around the planet. The media outlets do a good job of that already. It can be difficult to stay upbeat. That's why looking for the wonder in the things surrounding us is another tool we can use to win the war on negativity.

Our existence can be magical when we allow ourselves to see the beauty and wonder in the world around us. This can involve finding joy in the simple things, such as watching a sunset or hearing the laughter of loved ones. Seek out new experiences and explore new places that can open your eyes. If you can explore parts of the world, great; if you can’t do that, then check out your state, county or parish.

There is no excuse.
Even in challenging situations, you can find beauty if you look hard enough. Even pursuing our passions and purpose can bring a sense of wonder and meaning to our day to day.

I know I’m lucky because through my writing, research and travel, I get to experience some of the highlights of living. These highlights are by no means monumental. I’m just like you, Gentle Reader, except I’ve permitted myself to pay attention to the beauty and wonder in my everyday life. Look for the small moments that bring joy, curiosity, or amazement. It can be in the natural world, the people you interact with, your personal growth and achievements, or the little things that bring you happiness. Keep an open mind and an open heart, and you may find the magic all around you.

I’ve discovered that if you want to experience magic in your life, you need to create magic for others. And that’s why I’m so passionate about my Urban Fantastic brand. So far, it’s only through my books that I can create a spark of marvel that can make the realities of life less stark. But I want to do more - all to make life a more wondrous place to be a part of. So stick with me for another year, involve yourself in my book launches and other projects that are in the pipeline and let’s see what we can create together.

I dropped a Roald Dahl quote at the beginning of the post because I’m a fan. Yes, he was a genius children's author, but he also believed in looking for and finding magic in his life. He faced tragedy throughout his career, but he used his genius for storytelling to overcome it and shared his gift with the world,
Lesser men would have given up.
