I sometimes ask myself where this defeatist bullshit originates. Is it remnants of my negative thoughts mixed with other people’s negativity that I read, hear or see? It could be. All I know Is letting that kind of self-talk take root without your
intervention is dangerous.
How do you control it?
You do it by being indifferent to a good or bad thought because they’re all just thoughts. Trying to ignore negative self-talk won’t make the voices stop. You don’t have to embrace or believe whatever comes into your head. You choose your words, what to take to heart and what you discard.
That’s why I don’t
religiously follow news outlets, binge on social media or surround myself with too many negative people. I’m interested in ideas and how I can improve my future. I need to control what I take in because that will influence how I speak to myself. And what I tell myself consistently is what will bend and shape my reality.
Gentle Reader, we must consider how we speak to ourselves and the words we release into the world.
Like a sorcerer, our words are powerful, and if we release them into the world, we’re attempting to create, so we need to be careful what we put out there.
Self-talk isn’t about relentless and undying positivity. You may be unhappy, unmotivated or tired on any given day, but you don’t beat yourself up for it. You are capable of being happy, creative or rested, and it’s okay not to always feel that way.
The bottom line is that your words are there to support you, to remind you that you can do and become whatever and whoever you wish. They’re about believing that you can.
We, as humans, have the power to reason with ourselves. Conjure words that can motivate, tune our mindset, focus us and help us acquire new skills.
Now go out and speak your dreams into existence.
Be your own hero.
