What was I thinking?
I used to create my work and then sit around for some gatekeeper, some critic, some reader to decide whether I should share my stories with the world. I'm still mad when I think about it years later. Unfortunately, we carry this need into adulthood. We believe that without the permission of our elders or, worst, society, we cannot do what we must. When in truth, we need to maintain higher standards for ourselves.
Higher standards.

I've Given Myself Permission, to Kick Your Ass.

There I said it.
We settle too easily because holding ourselves to a higher level will require more of us than most are willing to give. Isn't it better than the alternative, though? We only have one life, so give it all you've got. How I see it is we have nothing to lose. None of us is getting out of this alive, so why not.

Your life belongs to you and no one else. Only you can mould it to what you want. I know the excuses you're going to give me. I've used them too.
They just don't cut it anymore.
Do what feels right.
Decide where your life goes.
And make up your own mind.

The power, tools and opportunities once clutched tightly to the chest of a select few are now open to everyone. You cannot allow others to think for you; if you do that, you're courting disaster.

Not taking the reins of your life and charting your own course is why creative people become trapped in boring office jobs. Why singers wind up working in cafes. And why you might be living a life that doesn't inspire you.
You let others decide for you.

You are given talent for a reason, and we all have something to offer the world. Whether you want to offer it is another matter, but you have the potential. You have the autonomy to change our life in ways that weren't possible even just a few years ago. With all of the world's challenges, you can still go forth and experience the world without being told to. You don't have to be a millionaire to discover more about your city, county, state or country. Join groups or clubs in the real world, meet real people and make connections. Laugh more; life isn't as serious as we think. We live in an exciting world, but we must discover every nook and cranny ourselves.

It's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Almost every dream you have has ways of making it happen without waiting for someone to offer you the chance to do it.

You don't need anyone's permission to read. You don't need anyone's permission to learn. You don't need anyone's permission to keep fit or explore your community. You have it in your power to make these things happen. And yet we do it for a job, but we never do it for ourselves.

Use your newfound freedom but remember, you have permission to live the life you want. It's already in your hands. It's been granted to you. Simply reach out and grab it.
