Lazy is not a word I use to describe myself, even when I'm in the mood for doing nothing. Most, if not all of us, will have days when we lack motivation, and our usual get up and go has get up and gone. But If we're not ill. It's easily rectified. Why? Because we have something, most people don't.

We know why we do what we do.

For a lot of us this underlying feeling of doing nothing will persist for weeks, months and years. If that is happening we have a problem. My diagnosis is that you lack purpose.
Purpose is the only thing that can get you up in the morning, the one thing that will make you bounce back when you've been knocked down. Without it, nothing of importance gets done.

But Anton, how do you develop purpose?
That's tough if you're not willing or comfortable searching for answers. We could rely on others to tell us what our purpose should be, but that would be a mistake. Parents and society only create pressure to take paths you don't necessarily want to take.
Not a good idea.

This journey is yours and yours alone.

Fortunately, the question of purpose has been asked by humans for millennia. And my brothers and sisters from the East have devised a way of helping you solve this riddle.The concept of Ikigai has long existed in Japanese culture and roughly translates to 'reason for being.' It can help us find our reasons for getting up in the morning and discover the one thing that totally absorbs us and never feels like work when we participate. That's what a flow state feels like.

Ikigai consists of four dimensions. Firstly, we need to pick something we're good at. Secondly, it must be a thing that we love to do. Thirdly, the world should need it. And lastly, we have to get paid.

I'm not going to make our chat too long by breaking it all down here, but I will recommend you look into Ikigai yourself.
It's worth it.

Finding your purpose is worth it.
Be prepared for a new lease of life when you understand what you're meant to bring to the world.

No more wanting to do nothing. With purpose, you'll be constantly switched on. And when you do rest or vacation, you'll do nothing with purpose. Your goal would be to re-energise yourself, so when you resume work, you'll be refreshed and rearing to go again.

Just remember that in a constantly shifting and changing world, finding your Ikigai is an exercise that needs to be adapted and fine-tuned throughout life. Your Ikigai may not be the same when you're twenty as when you turned fifty.
The Ikigai concept may vary, but the general consensus is we must be searching for a motivating purpose in life. When you feel like doing nothing too many times in a row, you know it's time for reflection and self-study.
Know why you do what you do and then do it with purpose.
