Long hours, delayed gratification, tough choices, sacrifices, carrying on till results show up: itās part of the journey.
The most significant difference between successful and unsuccessful people in any endeavour in life is that successful people know the price and are willing to pay. Not once, but every single day.
Hereās how Scott Adams, the creative genius behind the Dilbert comic strip, puts it in his excellent book How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big: āOne of the best pieces of advice Iāve ever heard goes something like this: If you want success, figure out the price, then pay it. It sounds trivial and obvious, but it has extraordinary power if you unpack the idea."
Itās tough paying the price and keeping your sanity, especially when things arenāt going well. Thatās when āthe priceā loses its sexiness. But you have two choices.
You either pay, or you donāt.
Even when it seems shit is falling apart, Iāve conditioned myself to pay it. The toughest days are when you find yourself frustrated, annoyed, and anxious. Thatās when the question that millions of us ask ourselves at our lowest point.
Is it worth it?
This is the time most will throw in the towel if their reasons for doing what they do isnāt rock solid. Only you can decide on that.
And for me, I want to be a bestselling author.
So what is my price?
Make writing my world, and spend every waking moment pushing for it. Build my skills, build my audience, make it my sole purpose and passion. Do that for long enough, and someday I will achieve it.
Whatās your price?
The thing that most people donāt do is figure out what they truly want. I think becoming very clear on what you want is very important because it clarifies exactly what your price will be. Earlier I said itās not possible to have everything.
Why?
Because every goal, every endeavour, every challenge, every ambition takes its toll. And no person, man, woman or child can pay the price for everything. Your lifespan and your energy are limited, so you need to decide what you truly want and proceed to pay the price.
What are you willing to pay for your dreams?
