You were born alone, and you will die alone.
So you need to decide on how you use the resources available to you. There are key strategies to success, even though every individual plays the game differently.
Firstly, you need to show up.
It’s so easy to remain in your comfort zone and continue as you are. Most people ask themselves, Why do more if I’m comfortable where I am? Well, know this. The game of life that we are forced to participate in does not recognise balance. You are either growing or declining.
The simple way of winning the game of life is by showing up. You’ve got to get clear and honest about what you want. You’ve got to tune into those places where you already feel alive and do more of that — but this time, do it on purpose. It’s so tempting to let things slide, especially when the game is tricking you into thinking it’s all good. Telling you that you don’t need to focus, you don’t need to find the passion that sets you apart from every other soul on
this planet.
Don’t listen.
Building the life of your dreams is hard to even when you know the rules of the game. But it’s also so much fun. You’ll never feel more alive. And since you’ve only got one life, don’t you want to feel alive while you’re living?
You are the character in your game. You can’t wish to be the fastest man alive without the talent or preparation; neither can you be as strong as the Hulk. There are limits to this process. But not many. The secret to making a change in your life is by small, consistent actions that trick the part of the brain that wants to keep you safe. It’s an ancient part of us
that hasn’t evolved as fast as our environment, so it creates resistance when it feels threatened. This is where most people go wrong, they expect transformation to be immediate, so they go all out fighting against the brain’s natural proclivity to protect you from harm. Instead of sweeping change, we make micro-commitments. Your brain is wired to not recognise these small actions as a threat until it’s too late. That’s how you win. That’s how you get your good intentions under the radar of your
brain’s fight or flight response. Any habit you need to develop this is how you do it.
This is the game of life’s power up function.
Pick one thing you want to transform about yourself, then break it down into its smallest component. Then start working on it piece by piece.
If anything is a cheat code for life, that’s it.
At first, we don’t have to play well. We don’t have to win. We don’t have to impress anyone. Hell, we don’t even have to be great at it. What we must do, is learn, improve and keep playing the damn game.
