If you want an improved life, you’ve got to trade the one you currently have for an upgrade. Here are some things that helped me to achieve my re-engineering results.
Look at yourself from the outside.
Imagine you could view yourself from the outside. You can detach your astral form, leave your body, and look at yourself. Are you happy with the physical you? What about your inner life? Is there room for improvement? Who could you be if you reinvented yourself? You need to cast a dispassionate eye over who you are. No bullshit here; only the truth will do. You are the programmer of your life, so code the qualities you require for success.
You Need a BHAG
A BHAG: Big Hairy Audacious Goal is a visionary goal for a business-changing benchmark for an organization. It’s a game-changer. It’s a goal that is not impossible but highly improbable. BHAG is a bold or courageous vision or a larger-than-life goal for people like you and me. We all should have one.
Are you willing to start from scratch?
You need to sit with yourself and cast an eye back on the life you’ve lived to date; you’ll start to see your experiences from a new perspective. Knowing where you’ve been will provide some insight into where you might want to go. If you’re not happy with where you are, things will have to change. No questions asked.
Time Travels
How much are you willing to learn? It takes time and commitment. It’s your responsibility. Nothing worth doing, including the act of re-engineering, will happen in a heartbeat. It takes blood, sweat and tears. You must keep going and make it a real commitment that you’re not prepared to break, no matter how tough it gets. Remember, time will travel anyway. Don’t let it use you; you use it.
Test Yourself
Here’s where shit gets real.
This can be a decisive step for you. Before you can do what you must - the artwork, the book, the business. Let’s take baby steps and feel our way into those BHAG’s - Big Hairy Audacious Goals. Here’s my suggestion. Travel to somewhere you’ve never been before. Somewhere you don’t speak the language, and the culture is alien to yours. Travel improves you. Learn more about the world and the people in it, push your boundaries, and try new things; you become a more
open, outgoing, and awesome person. Now revisit those BHAG’s and watch those barriers fade away.
Stay Healthy
I’m not saying you should be focused on competing in ultra-marathons, but make physical exercise a must and do it consistently. Your diet is an integral part of the equation. One of the greatest losses in our society today is our lack of cooking skills. Why? Because when you can cook, it fundamentally changes your relationship with food — and your health. If You’re Serious About Being Fit and Healthy, Learn to Cook.

The process of re-engineering never ends. It’s how we grow.
Reading helps to accelerate that process. Make cracking open a book, listening to an audio or swiping on your kindle as natural as eating and breathing. Gaining knowledge and applying it to your life is serious work, really important work, so don’t let anyone ever let you feel like it’s not.
You deserve to be happy healthy, enjoy life, and look back one day and be proud. That’s why the capacity to “re-engineer” ourselves becomes a key life skill for surviving and flourishing in the society of today and tomorrow.
Re-engineer yourself and repeat.
