To retain that mental endurance, you need a goal and passion, of course, but how you go about it is equally important. It would help if you made sure that your steps were simple but consistent.
Stay cool but keep moving.
When we get super excited, we sometimes use up all the energy that we have. And when the inevitable challenges rear their ugly heads, we’ve already burnt ourselves out.
Set a gradual and steady pace instead of trying to do everything in one day. Set aside time to do only one singular activity related to your overall goal instead of making complicated and elaborate arrangements that might fall apart at the seams.
This is my approach to writing and any creative endeavour in a nutshell.
Writing is about endurance and is something you build up. In the same way, you can build up endurance running; you can build endurance for focusing your attention and energy on writing for a prolonged period. Just as in running, where you can’t go from not running at all to running a marathon in a snap, you can’t go from not writing at all to writing several thousands of words a day.
For most of us, becoming someone with endurance will require you force yourself to take action.
It’s not always fun, but there is good news. In the early days of my career, I had to force myself to sit down and write. It was hard work, but I’m thankful I did it. Now, I write every day. I sometimes stare at a blank page, uncertain of what I will write in my notebook, but the words will start flowing once I get started. I’m so conditioned that if I skip writing, I feel as if I haven’t achieved anything for the day.
What ventures will you endure for?
I’ve been In this writing game for a while now, and I can honestly say that mental endurance has kept me fresh and enthusiastic. I believe in trying hard, learning from mistakes and misfortune. Focusing on my goals and self-belief are essential. I will never give up hope, looking forward to better things at all times and providing an example others can emulate.
You don’t have to be clever or talented, but you must be determined. If you are willing to start small, learn, experiment to find methods that work for your personal life and personality, have realistic expectations, and then put in the long term work to build endurance, you will be set.
